From 16 to 20 June, the 7th European Physics Olympiad took place at Leibniz Universität in Hannover. The event, supported by the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers and the Collaborative Research Centre DQ-mat, brought together some 180 students from 37 countries to solve challenging theoretical and experimental problems and to choose the best young physicists in Europe. This year, the team from Romania performed the best.

Researchers from the cluster and the CRC used the competition's supporting programme to also give the participants an insight into the excellent study and research opportunities at LUH, offer laboratory tours and answer questions. The students showed great interest and were impressed. It may well be that some of the promising talents will return to the region in the course of their studies.
