Trapped ions are one of the most mature platforms for quantum technologies. In this talk, I will summarize our work on building compact and scalable quantum computing demonstrators. In these systems, we implement proof of concept experiments for quantum error correction. I will further present applications for quantum enhanced sensing of forces that act on single ions for molecular spectroscopy as well as for electron microscopy.
