Abstract: I will present the work carried out in the project TRAPSENSOR at the University of Granada to implement a novel method for mass spectrometry based on the detection of fluorescence photons from a single laser-cooled 40Ca+ ion in a Penning trap. I will show the main elements of the TRAPSENSOR facility, which are a Penning-trap beamline and a setup comprising a radiofrequency trap and a laser system. With this setup, Doppler cooling of a single laser-cooled ion was accomplished, which is the first step needed to use the proposed method in the Penning-trap beamline.

Interested listeners are cordially invited.
