The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Leibniz University has honored two outstanding dissertations in the field of quantum optics with the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Young Physicists Award. The prizes went to Peter Micke for his work "Quantum Logic Spectroscopy of Highly Charged Ions" and to Giorgio Zarantonello with the topic "Robust high-fidelity microwave near-field entangling quantum logic gate". Associated with this award is a prize money of 2000 € each.
This was made possible by a grant from the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation, which provides the money for the dissertation prize.
Due to the pandemic, the award ceremony has been postponed. It is intended to make up for the award ceremony on May 6, 2021 at the Königlicher Pferdestall.
